Description
Wonderful antique mourning ring in yellow gold 750 / 18 ct (stamped and guaranteed).
The wide band ring is decorated with garland-shaped ornaments in black enamel and bears the inscription "In memory of", also in black enamel, on the front. If you take a look at the inside of the ring band, it becomes clear who is being commemorated here: an engraving refers to Ann Coombs, who died at the age of 62 on March 8, 1827. A lock of the deceased's hair adorns the ring head, creating a highly individual memento for the bereaved.
The unique ring was created in England in 1827 and is an excellently preserved example of the long tradition of mourning and memorial jewelry, which was particularly widespread in England.
