Description
Exceptional and rare historical earrings made of cut steel and yellow gold 8ct (tested and guaranteed).
The large earrings consist of faceted beads, stars and triangles that come together in a decorative design. The solid yellow gold hook earrings sit comfortably and swing freely on the ear.
The elaborate technique of cut steel was already practiced in Birmingham, England, in 1760 and quickly became very popular throughout Europe. Empress Maria Theresia of Austria, for example, owned a complete cut steel parure, which she herself wore at courtly evening events.
Nails were used as the starting material, which were cut in the same way as rose-cut diamonds and riveted onto fine plates.
In the beginning, this type of jewelry was also created as “travel jewelry” that was worn on the go, while the expensive real jewelry was safely stored at home. However, the artful processing technique of steel then became more and more fashionable and was particularly popular in Victorian England, where steel jewelry was worn on an equal footing with high-quality real jewelry.
Well-preserved cut steel jewelry is very rare today, which makes our pretty earrings not only decorative companions, but also coveted collector's items! They were made in England around 1830 and come with a contemporary case.
Dimensions of the earrings (including top): 5.6 x 2.1 cm.
Total weight: 11.0 grams.

You will receive the earrings lovingly packed in a contemporary case and with a certificate of authenticity.
