Description
Beautiful historical brooch with micromosaic of St Peter's Basilica in Rome, crafted from silver (tested and guaranteed).
The high-quality and detailed inlay work of polychrome mosaic stones is embedded in an oval onyx disc. In shades of brown, green, yellow and delicate blue, it depicts St Peter's Basilica in Rome with its main square and colonnades. Water seems to gush out of the fountains by the sculptor Bernini flanking the obelisk in the centre. In the background, the viewer can make out buildings such as Palazzo Belvedere and the Sistine Chapel or the church of Santa Maria della Pietà in Camposanto dei Teutonici and the former buildings of the square of the contemporary Vatican Audience Hall. Rome specialists will also recognise the Vatican Gardens from the fresh greenery.
The oval brooch has a simple silver frame with brooching on the back and a C-hook clasp.
The function of this piece of jewellery is still the same as when it was created. In the 19th century, jewellery of this kind was often brought home as souvenirs from cultural and educational trips. Today, we look at it and admire the fine mosaic work and the richness of detail and remember our last visit to Rome.
This beautiful brooch was made in Italy around 1860 and is in excellent condition!
