Description
Finest historical micromosaic medallion pendant with dove with olive branch, crafted from 750 / 18ct yellow gold (tested and guaranteed).
The finely crafted Italian pendant in the archaeological style typical of the period is set with a colourful micromosaic of small glass stones. The main motif is a white dove with an olive branch in its beak, a symbol of peace that actually goes back to the story of Noah, who is said to have sent out three doves after the end of the Flood, one of which brought him back an olive branch. In addition to the white bird, colourful floral ornaments and trefoil motifs adorn the extremely beautiful pendant. You can thread a chain of your choice through the large, beautifully decorated eyelet. We would be happy to advise you on chains from our range.
The back of the medallion pendant has a glazed compartment with a hinge: a personal memento, a photo or a small lock of hair can be stored here.
This beautiful pendant was made in Italy around 1860. Micromosaic jewellery, also known as "pietra dura" or "Florentine mosaic", was a popular souvenir for the nobility and wealthy upper classes who travelled through Italy on their Grand Tour in the 19th century. The mosaics made there from numerous tiny glass stones depicted motifs such as animals, flowers, ancient Roman ruins, but also mythological or religious scenes and representations.
