Description
Exquisite antique micro-mosaic pendant with chain, crafted from gold-plated tombac and 333 / 8 carat yellow gold (hallmarked, tested and guaranteed).
This rare pendant has a round shape, openworked with a central square and four circles. All segments are set with fine polychrome micro-mosaic. The central square is adorned with a decorative bouquet of forget-me-not flowers, whilst the outer sections are decorated with geometric patterns and millefiori motifs. The micro-mosaic is set in gold-plated tombac. The pendant features an elongated gold eyelet and hangs on a matching pea chain, which was added at a later date. Both the pendant eyelet and the chain are crafted from 333 / 8 carat yellow gold (hallmarked and guaranteed).
The centuries-old technique of micro-mosaic creates delicate motifs and colour schemes through the skilful arrangement of fine, colourful ‘tessere’. This pendant captivates with its delicate forget-me-not motif and its excellent condition. It was made in Italy around 1890 and is a wonderful historical artefact, as such micro-mosaic works were particularly popular at that time amongst 19th-century travellers on educational journeys who toured Italy as part of the Grand Tour and enjoyed bringing small souvenirs home with them.
Length of the chain: 42.0 cm.
Dimensions of the pendant (including eyelet): 3.7 x 3.0 cm.
Weight: 6.8 grams in total.
Condition: Very fine historical condition, a tiny, barely visible chip in the micro-mosaic, chain added at a later date, freshly cleaned, see photos.
You will receive the pendant and chain lovingly packaged in one of our pretty cases, along with a certificate of authenticity.
