Description
Wonderful Russian dormeuse earrings with sparkling old european cut diamonds, crafted from 585 / 14 ct gold (stamped and guaranteed).
A rosette-shaped suspension, each set with nine old european cut diamonds with a total weight of 2.4 carats, swings from a bow clasp typical of the period. The diamonds are in the beautiful quality range (H-J, SI1-SI2).
The hinged hoops are opened and closed from the front.
The name of the earrings goes back to the French verb "dormir" (= to sleep): earrings that sit close to the earlobe and are often fitted with hinged hoops were intended to be worn while sleeping. Towards the end of the 19th century in particular, people abandoned long, pompous earrings in favor of shorter jewels such as Dormeuse earrings.
These rare earrings were created in Russia around 1890 and their design and exclusive use of diamonds are typical of the jewelry art of the late 19th century! They impress with their wonderful condition and timeless elegance.
Dimensions of the earrings: 1.9 x 1.1 cm.
Diameter of the old european cut diamonds: ca. 2.9 - 4.9 mm, total ca. 2.4 ct (H-J, SI1-SI2).
Weight: total 4.9 grams.
Condition: Very good historical condition, freshly cleaned, see photos.
You will receive the earrings lovingly packaged in one of our pretty cases and with a certificate of authenticity.
Please note: Vintage or antique jewelry items are worn objects that may show slight signs of wear due to their history.
