Rare antique lava cameo necklace in gold-plated silver (tested and guaranteed).
This special necklace consists of a centrepiece made of six finely cut, oval lava cameos in simple bezel settings, which are connected to each other by semi-circular elements. At the sides, the cameos are attached to double-row pea chains that end in a spring ring as a clasp. The lava cameos in finely graduated earth tones from olive to brown and black feature female profiles in an antique style with different hairstyles and headdresses.
This beautiful historical piece of jewellery was created around 1880 and comes from Italy, the centre of gem carving at the time. The excavation sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum were extremely popular and significant stops on educational trips at the time, from which jewellery such as this was brought back as a souvenir.
Thanks to the tasteful colouring and the fine craftsmanship of the cut cameos, the necklace is still captivating today and is highly sought after due to its rarity.
